HOW TO MAKE IDLI SAMBAR RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

  • Rice – 2 cups
  • Split black gram (urad dal) – 1 cup
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Baking soda- 1 Teaspoon
  • Water – 1 cup (as per requirement more or less)

RECIPE TIME

8 hours for soaking rice and split black gram.

4 to 5 hours for fermentation of rice and split black gram batter.

45 minutes for idli making procedure.

Total recipe time 12 hours 45 minutes. 

QUANTITY : AROUND 35 IDLIS

PROCEDURE

First of all take 2 cups of rice and 1 cup of black gram in a bowl.

Wash it 4 to 5 times. You can wash rice and split gram separately or you can wash with combined also.

After washing 4 to 5 times, pour fresh water into the rice and split gram mixture.

Now soak this mixture for around 8 hours or overnight.

 

Drain urad dal

After 8 hours, again wash the mixture with fresh water and drain all the water.

Now take a mixture jar and put this mixture into the jar and grind it well till it becomes plain and in smoothie texture.

If the mixture gets thick then add 2 to 3 tablespoon water and grind it again.

Like this way grind all mixture.

Pour the grinded mixture in a bowl.

Add 1 teaspoon salt and mix it well. The consistency of the batter should be medium.

Now cover the bowl with a plate and keep aside for 4 to 5 hours for fermentation.

After 5 hours the batter gets fermented. If the batter becomes thick then you can add 2 to 3 tablespoon water and mix it well.

Meanwhile take any alluminium vessel or idli making cooker and pour 2 cups water in it. Keep it for boiling for 5 minutes

Now add 1 teaspoon baking soda into the batter. Always add baking soda in the batter at last.

Now mix the batter lightly in one direction.

Here your idli batter is ready to make idlis.

BATTER

Steam the idlis for 10 minutes on high flame.

Check these idlis by inserting knife into it. If the batter leaves on the knife the steam the idlis for further 5 minutes. Otherwise turn off the gas if the knife comes out clean.

Now remove the plate and take out the idli stand out and keep it for cooling.

After the idli gets cooled, demould the idli from the stand with the help of hand or a knife.

Like this way make all the idlis of the ready batter.

Here your spongy, fluffy and soft idli is ready.

You can serve these idlis with sambar, red chutney and green chutney.

There are different ways to make idli. You can make plain white idli or colorful idli by adding any food color.

You can serve the idli with sambar and chutney, You can serve only idli-chutney also.

Kids can eat only idli also as it is very healthy.
